Frida Baby 3 in 1 True Temp Thermometer Review

One of the scariest times as a new parent is when your baby has a fever for the first time. You find yourself looking up things on the internet you never thought you would and wondering if doing something wrong could mean devastating outcomes. Luckily with the extremely simple Frida Baby 3 in 1 True Temp, you know that you’re going to get an accurate and quick read.

There are a lot of thermometers with different bells and whistles, but if you are looking for a basic thermometer that you and anyone watching your baby will know how to read, then you will love the Frida Baby 3 in 1 True Temp thermometer.

3 in 1 Feature

If you’ve read any of my previous posts, you know I go crazy for single products that have multiple uses. For everyone wondering what could possibly be the 3 in 1 feature for a thermometer, here’s the scoop:

  1. Rectal
  2. Underarm
  3. Oral

The three in one function is really just different places you can check the temperature on the body, which might not seem that awesome at first, but if you are a new parent scanning the aisles in the store or online wondering which item is the best for your baby, you’ll probably go with the more versatile product.

It is handy to have all these options because different locations work best for different times in life. According to Frida Baby, here are the ages that are best for each location:

  • Rectal: 0-3 years
  • Underarm: 1 years+
  • Oral: 3 years+

Extension

There is one major difference between the rectal thermometer and the underarm/ oral thermometer. With the rectal thermometer, it has a small, flexible extension that will put parents at ease when they are wondering really how far they should stick that thing up their baby’s bum.

The underarm and oral function of the thermometer has a longer extension that will help ensure that parents can more comfortably put the tip in the right location and also read the temperature as it registers.

Frida Baby prides itself on developing products that parents really need and this is a testament to that.

Nighttime Temperature Checks

If you have ever had to put a baby to sleep when they have a fever, you know it can be challenging. You already know that you’ll be up all night regardless of how your baby sleeps. You’ll do multiple checks on their temperature even without them waking, but just because you’re awake doesn’t mean you want your baby to be. Frida Baby thought of everything and added a light to the 3 in 1 True Temp. If you are lucky enough to check your baby’s temperature without them waking up from the movement, then you’re good to go! The light that the thermometer produces will definitely not wake them.

Quick And Accurate

Have you ever wondered about forehead thermometers? Why in the world would you subject your baby to a rectal temperature read when there are no touch options available? Well, according to Seattle Children’s Hospital, “Rectal temps are the most accurate. Forehead temps are the next most accurate. Oral and ear temps are also accurate if done properly. Temps done in the armpit are the least accurate.”

So if you’re looking to have the most accurate read possible, then rectal is where it’s at–literally.

But how long do you have to leave the thermometer in your baby’s bum? It’s really hard emotionally as a parent to insert a thermometer up your baby’s bum when they are already feeling terrible. Then it becomes a very physically challenging thing to keep it in there long enough to get an accurate read.

The Frida Baby 3 in 1 True Temp thermometer only has to be in the rectum for 10 seconds to get an accurate read. And if that isn’t enough to ease your mind, 30 seconds later it will double-check it without reinserting. It’s a parent’s dream.

10 Previous Temperatures

When your baby has a temperature and you’ve been up all night with him or her, it can be hard to remember details like the exact temperature he or she had at 1 am. Your pediatrician might drill you on these details, however, so you’ll love the Frida Baby 3 in 1 function of storing the last 10 temperatures taken.

You won’t have to write them down, and you won’t have to feel guilty about not writing them down.

Carrying Case

One convenient little accessory that comes with the Frida Baby 3 in 1 is the hard plastic carrying case. This keeps your thermometer from turning on accidentally and draining the battery when it is bumped by something in the bottom of your diaper bag. It also protects your thermometer from random germs and other things it could come into contact with. It is also quite a bit bigger than the thermometer itself, which makes it much easier to find when you are frantically looking for it.

Water-Resistant

When you take a rectal temperature, you definitely want to clean the thermometer thoroughly afterward. Especially if you are using this thermometer in many locations for all the members of your family. It is very important for the sake of your sanity as well as germs, that you clean it between uses.

In all honesty, I would personally buy two thermometers, one purely for rectal use and one for anywhere else. Just make sure that the rectal thermometer is clearly marked so no one makes the mistake of using it orally. No matter how well you wash it with soap and water, it wouldn’t be enough for me to get rid of my heebie-jeebies.

Or you could just get the Frida Baby rectal thermometer–I even wrote a review of that one here!

Conclusion

Overall, this is a great everyday thermometer. It is accurate and quick and you can stick it literally anywhere. It is so handy to have a versatile thermometer that you can use from infancy to adulthood. This thermometer is also affordable, enough that you could buy multiples and put one in your diaper bag, medicine cabinet, and each of your cars. You never know when a fever might hit your family, but it is always nice to be prepared.
